In this essay I have a look at Julie Dash's incredible 1991 film. To be entirely honest, the essay came out a bit messy because of how overwhelmed I was by the film, but I tried to get at how the radical nonlinear form and focus on the voices and stories of black women undoes some of Hollywood's globalizing white supremacy. I talk about the Unborn Child's role as narrator, the vital power of naming, and the interweaving of past, present, and future.
